Typically 5 to 7 days. In Chicago's climate, we monitor humidity levels with professional sensors. Acclimation is not just about time; it's about reaching the Equilibrium Moisture Content (EMC) relative to your home's specific environment.
Solid vs. Engineered hardwood: which is better for Illinois?
Engineered hardwood is often superior for Chicago basements or homes with radiant heat due to its multi-layer stability. Solid hardwood is a classic choice for main levels but requires stricter humidity control (35-55%) to avoid gapping.
What is the best wood species for high-traffic homes?
We recommend White Oak or Hickory. White Oak has a Janka hardness of 1360 and excellent water resistance, while Hickory (1820) is even tougher, making it ideal for homes with large pets or active families.
